For many enthusiasts the Iriartea is the most splendid of many of the amazing palm trees of South America. This tall, elegant plant has a slightly swollen, gray or white trunk; feathery leaves with leaflets arranged very carefully in four planes; Giant horn-shaped bracts, which easily identify it. Common in its original home of Costa Rica, it is totally unknown and nonexistent in the Dominican Republic. They can grow up to 35 meters.
